A New Chapter

After ten years of operation, the ‘Shoobil’ gallery enters a new phase and becomes simply: Shoobil.

This marks a transformation in spirit, focus, and function. Shoobil is no longer a gallery in the traditional sense. It is now a space run by artists; an open framework that questions the boundaries of exhibition, music, conversation, and collaboration.

Shoobil becomes a platform for experimentation: an environment where artists can explore new ground, share unfinished ideas, and let process take center stage. Freed from the pressure of finished results or curated perfection, this place encourages spontaneity, risk-taking, and raw exploration. Artists are invited to improvise without extensive preparation, to move quickly from idea to action, and to embrace the generative potential of not knowing.

In contrast to traditional art institutions, Shoobil offers an alternative mode of engagement. It circumvents structures that often dictate how art is made, shown, or received. Here, the rules are flexible, the roles are fluid, and the boundaries between artist, audience, and space are intentionally porous.

Shoobil is an interactive platform for real-time organization, not driven by a fixed program, but by the shifting needs and energies of those involved. Anchored in a shared story, it grows organically; through conversations, chance encounters, long nights, and slow mornings.

Shoobil makes space for slowness, for ongoing interaction without haste or purpose. It values presence over outcome, and relation over result.

At its core, Shoobil proposes a subtle yet powerful shift in how art can be practiced, shared, and experienced.

It is a place where work unfolds.

In this redefinition, Shoobil also reconnects with its origins. This new chapter is co-shaped by Serena Baplu, who, together with Tosca Baplu and Jef Gysen, founded Shoobil Gallery ten years ago. Serena’s presence anchors the space in its history, while opening new directions. Her own practice: ’sculptures that are meant to be walked on’ embodies the values of physicality, movement, and tangible experience. Shoobil now also becomes her studio: a space of making that is open, porous, and full of possibility.

Shoobil is becoming.

We invite you to become with it.
